Santo Domingo – Dominican Republic
Centrally located in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, the majestic Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando holds its historical authority of high standards, character and service, as it was built in 1502 paving the first road to the New World. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando is quintessentially a refined 97-room hotel (four of them being suites) with modern amenities, colonial-style décor, Dos Mundos restaurant at the direction of internationally renowned Chef Martin Omar, an imperial loyalty club, bar and pool, all of which can be discovered in this restored 16th-century building.
My entire experience staying at Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando in the dramatic “Zona,” as its affectionately called, exceeded my expectations with many ‘firsts’ and there are so many reasons why you need to put this gorgeous hotel and Santo Domingo on your must-visit list, because if you don’t learn about the history here, then you can’t properly get your head around the history of the Caribbean, or The Americas. – Andria Mitsakos
